Description
Harvested from sphagnum peat beds in Manitoba; peat moss holds water, provides aeration, nutrient exchange sites and decomposes slowly. It is often used as a mulch over a newly seeded lawn, etc. or as an ingredient in potting soil or soilless mixes.
- Use with a mix of potting soil for blueberries
- pH 3.5-4.5
- Does not contain wetting agents.
- Improves water holding capacity of soils
There has been a lot in gardening news lately about going peat-free and that peatlands are critically endangered. This applies to European peatlands only. Peatlands in Canada are abundant and very carefully managed to ensure that far more peat accumulates each year than is harvested.
In addition, harvesting occurs for several years over the same site, usually to a depth of 25 feet or more.
