Description

Lettuce - Romaine - Jericho - Lactuca sativa

Hardy Annual Heirloom. Grow Jericho as a baby or mature lettuce head. Heat tolerant romaines are always handy and Jericho is renowned for its sweet flavor. This child of the Israeli desert is a silky romaine that will brighten your salad bowl and sandwiches. Resistant to heat stress, tip burn, and mosaic virus. Jericho is not particularly susceptible to mildews.

Did You Know? Romaine lettuce was popularized by the ancient Romans.

Soil & Water: Lettuce likes full sun except in hot summer climates where it prefers some afternoon shade. Add plenty of compost to the soil to encourage rapid growth. Water evenly and moderately to prevent bitterness.

Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 4 weeks before transplanting outside, or sow seed directly as soon as the soil is workable. Make successive plantings every 10-14 days for a continuous harvest. In mild climates, lettuce can be sown from spring through fall.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest by cutting the whole head at the soil line. Harvest when the heads are at a good size, but while they are still young and tender.
