- Uses: Herb suited to well or moderately drained soils with medium to high fertility levels and a pH of 5.5 or greater. Long taproot penetrates subsoils which makes it drought tolerant and allows it to make minerals more available to livestock. Rich in potassium, sulfur, calcium, zinc, sodium, manganese and iron.
- Facts to Note: When managed properly, Chicory produces leafy growth which is higher in nutritive and mineral content than alfalfa and other cool season grasses. Protein levels range between 10%-32%, depending on plant maturity. Root can also be used for a coffee substitute! Used mainly in mixes with other pasture or cover crop seeds.
