Description
Plug spawn consists of mushroom mycelium growing on small, spiral-grooved birch dowels. By inoculating stumps or logs, mushrooms can be colonized in the wood. After 9-12 months, the colony is established and mushrooms will spring from cracks in the wood.
Inoculate between Mar-Oct in north, year round in the south. Drill 5-16 drill bit holes 2 deep in logs or stumps (not in live trees; for best results, use a tree cut at least 2 weeks but no longer than 2 months.) A 3'-4' log uses 50+ plugs, stumps usually hold 30-50 plugs. Each kit comes with 100 plugs.
- Laetiporus conifericola
- These plugs can be held for 2 weeks at room temperature or up to 4 months in the refrigerator before inoculation.
- Detailed instructions are included. Follow the instructions exactly or the kit may not perform as expected.
